Helping you find a midwife in Utah

Nurturing Birth Midwifery, LLC

Experience and Education

My name is Lisa Ellingford.  I am a Certified Professional Midwife and have a nursing degree from Weber State College.  I worked in Labor and Delivery for ten years in a rural hospital. In 1995 I experienced my first home birth which led to a change from assisting laboring women in a hospital setting to assisting women with birth in the home setting.  I respect the birth process and am offering my skills to women who desire the option of an attended birth outside the hospital setting. I look forward to assisting you as you care for your baby prenatally, make preparations for birth, deliver your baby and adjust to having a new member of your family.  I have had experience with seven different midwives and have assisted in approximately 250-275 births (including my hospital experience).  I participate in continuing education classes and midwifery conferences and am CPR and NRP certified.  I am also recognized as a body talk access technician, and I have completed The Art of Mentoring course.

Practice and Philosophy

I believe childbirth is a natural, normal, physiological process. I respect the birth process and am offering my skills to women who desire the option of an attended birth outside the hospital setting. Women are empowered as they actively contribute to a healthy pregnancy and delivery.  Education and excellent prenatal care are important factors in having a fulfilling pregnancy and birth without complications.  Nutrition, exercise, education and trusting in your God give capabilities are key factors in preparing for a positive experience.

Midwifery Services and Responsibilities

I provide prenatal care from conception to birth, postpartum and newborn care until 6 weeks after birth. Prenatal visits will be at my office every four weeks until 28 weeks of pregnancy, and then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks of pregnancy, when we will have a visit at your home for those having a home birth.  From 36 weeks until birth, appointments are every week.  At the birth I may have an apprentice or a second midwife along to assist.  There will be 3-4 postpartum/newborn exams.  Plan approximately 1 1/2 hours for the initial visit and approximately 1 hour for visits thereafter. I am willing to travel a 30 mile radius for homebirths.  If you live further than that, you may deliver at Nurturing Birth birthing suite.

Initial consultation free of charge.
