My journey into midwifery actually began with the birth of my first child, albeit in a hospital. I did not even know that homebirth was an option, but I was frustrated with the hospital experience I ended up having. With my second child, I was introduced to the idea of birthing at home by my doula, who could see no other option for me- given how “stuck” I was on wanting things to be unhindered, uncomplicated and the safest, most loving experience for my baby. Needless to say, my homebirth was everything I needed and wanted, as a woman and a mother. I am passionate about helping to INFORM women, to educate them and support them on their path; and to take care of them and their babies both before, during and after birth. I believe that birth is inherently safe, but that a midwife can be a valuable asset to the mother and family, when present with her knowledge, skill and compassion. I strive to achieve the balance between acting as your “caregiver” and supporting you like your friend or sister would–to me, the meaning of “midwife”. I believe that, in most cases, babies can be born easily without my hands, and I strive to provide exceptional care with a very strong “hands-off” policy. If you or baby need me, I am there. But most women and babies are more than capable and willing to birth without a lot of fiddling from someone else. I believe that women know how to birth and that babies know how to be born. In this culture, sometimes we need to be reminded of our power and our potential as women. I cannot give anyone empowerment; I only try and show you a reflection of what is already right inside of you. I feel divinely lucky to be a part of the life cycle so intimately. I was educated in the apprenticeship model, and completed a 4 year apprenticeship beginning in Chicago and ending here in Arizona. I’ve completed formal midwifery studies with the Ancient Art of Midwifery Institute, and was rigorously tested by the state of Arizona to obtain my license. As a result, Red Rock Midwifery was founded in 2009. I am also a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) . Besides helping babies in, I enjoy voicing my opinion about natural birth and parenting. Visit Indie Birth for lots of that. I live in Cornville with my husband of 10 years, Jason. Our children are Amelia (7), Egan (5), Talula (3) and Rune Winter, (1). We enjoy “unschooling”, swimming in the creek and taking care of our 3 dogs and flock of chickens. Life is good!
